Prunus nigra x P. salicina 'Pembina' (Hybrid Plum, mid- late season)
Skin is dark red, thick sour and astringent. Fruit flesh is orange-gold, soft juicy and sweet, about 5 cm (2 in.). Matures in late August to early September with plums that are very good for fresh eating and preserving. It is know as one of the best large dessert plums in the prairies. Tree form is ornamental, upright, spreading, vase shaped, perfectly used as an accent tree. This tree has been one of the prairie standards since the late 1920's. It will need a pollinator and is best matched with a Wild American Plum. Grow in full sun, it is particular with water and does not like wet feet but prefers evenly moist soil.
