Fern - Ostrich

The fiddle heads on this fern are edible when they first emerged, still coiled into a bundle. Only the fiddle heads are edible.  Once the fern frond has unfurled, it is no longer edible. Growth is upright, arching and will easily fill a spot. They will lose their leaves in the fall, only to re-emerge come spring. Low maintenance and pest and disease free this is easily the best fern to grow in AB. Grow in full to part shade with evenly moist soil.
